Carols and donkeys
Last Monday evening (15th December) Cafe Jericho organised an evening of Carols and the retelling of the Christmas Story. Around 60 people including a number from local churches gathered beneath the bright hand held Bethlehem Star starting from Gamesley School to hear a retelling of the Christmas story..
Teddy and Paddy the donkeys brought along by Sara Staden helped to carry Mary to Bethlehem. Mary ( Holly Lomas) Joseph (Austin Green) and the Angel Gabriel (our very own Angel Green ) followed the Star leading the carollers to the Inn where they met a very concerned Inn keeper Nick Rogers at the Premier Inn with beds fit for a king! Sadly they had no room so it was off to the Christmas Tree to hear about the angels appearing to the shepherds. Finally they travelled to the stable where the baby Jesus lay in the manger.
Nick and Donna Rogers who organised the evening were delighted with the turnout. Speaking after the event Donna said how much everyone had enjoyed the evening which sought to put Christ at the heart of Christmas. She said “I think its important that people hear the story of the birth of Jesus and Vin Burston brought the words of Lukes gospel to life for all those listening.
After their journey the Carollers were treated to mince pies made and donated by a number of people including Pat Javanaud and G52. Mulled wine and hot drinks were also served at Cafe Jericho.
Many thanks to Donna for details of the participants, you can view photo’s for the event below or on Flickr at : https://flic.kr/s/aHsk6hnJfC
